The Patient Safety Issue - Diagnositic Error

What to expect in this episode:

In this episode, we'll discuss a serious topic I have previously podcasted: diagnostic errors.  This issue is tremendous in our country, especially for rural patients and older adults.  Diagnostic errors can lead to serious harm if conditions aren't treated correctly. By communicating clearly, keeping good records, and asking questions, you and your families can help reduce the risk of these errors.

And as always, I will answer the question, "What could you do to make your voice matter?"

As the Founder and CEO of Hughes Advocacy, I advocate for better health care for my clients in Alabama and elsewhere. I have over 25 years of experience working in the medical industry, where I equip, empower, educate, and teach patients how to get the best care they need and deserve.

I have emerged as a national advocate for patients. I was appointed by U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra to serve a three-year term on the National Advisory Council (NAC) for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). A resident of Birmingham, I am the first Alabamian known to have ever served on the prestigious council that addresses the quality of care in the United States.

On behalf of the White House Office of American Innovation, I was invited to attend the Blue Button 2.0 Developers Conference at the White House to discuss improving patient care. In addition, I am a Patients for Patient Safety U.S. Champion, a member of the National Patient Safety Board, and an active member of the Greater National Advocates Organization and Solace Health. I am also an APHA Emeritus member of The Alliance of Professional Health Advocates (APHA),

I have a passion for patients, so let's be the change together.
